Why we love the Dovecote….

When we bought our home in 2018 the main house and all of the outbuildings were totally derelict. We renovated the house and then set about renovating the barns.

The Dovecote is the larger of the two cottages with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The original brick dovecote and stone floors remind us of it’s agricultural past but it also has all of the modern comforts for a relaxing holiday. Tucked away down a long drive way the dovecote is in a peaceful location with lots of options for walks from the front door (dog friendly pub is 20 minutes walk away across the fields). The space is versatile so works well for couples, families and groups of friends especially if you combine it with the next Stable cottage and/or the Groom’s cottage. There are two living room areas, one of which is set up with a desk and office chair so is ideal for those who wish to work from home during their stay.

Groundfloor bedroom with en-suite shower room

This bedroom has a king size bed, chest of drawers, hanging space and en-suite shower room. It is modern yet cosy. The en-suite shower room has a large walk in shower, sink and loo.

Upstairs bedroom
This bedroom has a king size bed, chest of drawers and some hanging space. The sloping ceilings make it cosy and there are views out across the hills.

Upstairs bathroom
This bathroom has a bath with shower, loo and sink.

Mezzanine living room
This mezzanine area over the living room has a lovely view out over the countryside and is a nice spot to sit down with a book. We have also set up a work space area for those who wish to combine work and pleasure. The internet speed is ***** so is not super fast but is sufficient for teleconferences.

Kitchen
The modern kitchen has a family sized fridge freezer, oven, induction hob, microwave, dish washer, washer drier. Tea towels, sponges, washing up liquid and some dishwasher tablets are provided.
Living room
The living room and kitchen are open plan and the downstairs bedroom leads off from the living room. There is a 55 inch smart TV with access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, BBC I player etc (guests will need their own log in).

Outdoor space
There is a small patio area outside the dovecote with a table and chairs, which is a lovely spot to have breakfast in the morning. This is not fenced off so dogs cannot be left unattended outside. Being part of an old farm the Dovecote is surrounded by fields. To the back of the dovecote there is 30 acres of parkland on which cattle and sheep are grazed. It really is very beautiful and the foot path that runs through it leads down to the village and the local pub, the Blacksmith’s Arms. The other fields change with the seasons, in May there are great swathes of bright yellow oil seed rape and later in the year there are golden fields of wheat and barely.

Accessibility
The cottage is not accessible by wheelchair but the downstairs bedroom is useful for those who wish to avoid stairs.

Local Area
The Dovecote is nestled in the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire wolds and is an excellent base for walking or cycling.
The Blacksmith’s arms is located in the nearby village and you can walk to it across the fields from the cottage.
The sandy beaches of the east coast are within 20 minutes of the cottage. Chapel St Leonards, Anderby Creek and Huttoft are great beaches for dog walking. Gibralta Point and Saltfleetby-Threddlethorpe Dunes and are the best spots for wild life, and of course the classic sea side towns of Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes are nearby and offer attractions such as donkey rides and roller coasters.
The nearest town is Spilsby which has a Sainsbury’s and Co- op as well as a selection of cafes and pubs. Other towns nearby include Alford, Horncastle and Skegness, the historic city of Lincoln is 50 minutes away by car and we would recommend a day trip to see the amazing cathedral and the original Magna Carta which is held in Lincoln Castle.
